South Asian flavors meet American comfort food in this one pot meal. The chicken is braised with tamarind and coconut and topped with buttermilk turmeric dumplings.
Asha, as an adoptive mom (my son is 7), this post warms my heart. We are all pescatarians in my house. Do you think I could make this gravy with fish or shrimp?
Yes, fish would be great here! Maybe a firm, flaky white fish or salmon. I would cut them into big chunks and marinate them for an hour with the spices (leave out the lemon juice maybe because you don't want ceviche). You could used vegetable stock or fish stock instead of chicken. I might make the sauce and let it simmer for 20 minutes before adding the fish, just so it doesn't overcook. Then cook the sauce with the fish for 5 minutes before adding the dumplings and finishing it for 15 minutes.
Your mom and I shared the same haircut and wardrobe! 😂 I can’t wait to make this dish. You are changing the way I cook and flavor my food. You are changing how I move through the world. Thank you, Asha!
At one point, I think my mom and I had the same haircut when I was growing up, hahaha. Glad I've grown out of it—it definitely looked better on her! And, thank you so much for your kind words. It truly means the world to me to be able to share good food with y'all.
I went with the rotisserie chicken option and this dish came together super fast and the flavor was incredible. Thank you Asha for another amazing recipe!
