Grab those sunnies, cocktail cuties, and get ready for the the drink of summer 2023: Frozen sangria (yeah, that’s right, move over, Aperol spritzes!). This beloved Spanish drink is typically a combination of wine, brandy or another liquor, citrus juice, and fruit, which gets macerated and chilled.
This cheeky, blended take on the classic—a pitch-and-release recipe from my Google vault!—combines red wine, brandy, frozen berries, orange and lemon juices, and a simple syrup spiced with cinnamon, clove, mace, and cardamom. You could use regular ol’ agave or simple syrup, but the spices enhance the fruit, while also complementing the red fruit notes in the wine. Best paired with good friends, long, lingering afternoons, and your favorite jams blasting in the background (for me, that’s mother’s Cruel Summer, IYKYK).
